Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac win 2024 Olympics mixed doubles tennis gold

The mixed doubles tournament has been determined at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and the gold medalists are Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic. On Friday, Siniakova and Machac defeated Xinyu Wang and Zhizhen Zhang 0f China in the gold medal match, 6-2, 5-7, [10-8].

This was the second Olympic gold medal for Siniakova. At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, she teamed up with Barbora Krejcikova in women’s doubles. In the gold medal game, Siniakova and Krejcikova beat Belinda Bencic and Victorija Golubic of Switzerland 7-5, 6-1.

Siniakova has emerged as a women’s doubles specialist. She has won nine grand slam women’s doubles titles in her career. With Krejcikova, they won the 2018 and 2021 French Open, the 2018 and 2022 Wimbledon final, the 2022 and 2023 Australian Open final, and 2022 United States Open final. Krejcikova also won the 2024 French Open final with American Coco Gauff, and the 2024 Wimbledon final with American Taylor Townsend.

This was Machac’s first significant tennis victory. He previously joined forces with Zhizhen Zhang of China to win the Open 13 men’s doubles tennis title in Marseille, France earlier this year. In the final, Zhang and Machac beat Patrik Niklas-Salminen and Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland 6-3, 6-4.

We also now know the finalists in the other four gold medal matches in Olympic tennis. In men’s action, we will see two of the top three players in the world as Novak Djokovic of Serbia will face Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. In the women’s gold medal match, Qinwen Zhang of China will face Donna Vekic of Croatia. In men’s doubles, Matthew Ebden and John Peers of Australia will face Americans Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek. In women’s doubles, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani will face the Individual Neutral Athletes team of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.
