Justin Rose leads after round two at 2025 Masters

Justin Rose of London, England is the leader after the second round of the 2025 Masters. He is currently at -8.

Rose did not golf as well in the second round as he did in the first round. On Thursday, Rose shot an opening round score of seven-under-par 65. Then on Friday. Rose had a second round score of one-under-par 71.

Rose had four birdies and three bogeys on Friday in the second round. He birdied the second, eighth, 12th and 16th holes, and bogeyed the fifth, 14th, and 17th holes.

There are seven other players who are in contention at the moment, and trying to catch up to Rose. They are Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, California (-7), Canadian Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario (-6), Rory McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland (-6), Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey (-5), Shane Lowry of Clara, Ireland (-5), Matt McCarty of Scottsdale, Arizona (-5), and Tyrrell Hatton of Buckinghamshire, England (-5).

Of the eight players at the top of the leaderboard are five major champions from the past. They are Rose, the 2013 United States Open champion, DeChambeau, the 2020 and 2024 United States Open champion, McIlroy, the 2011 United States Open champion, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship winner, and the 2014 British Open champion, Scheffler, the 2022 and 2024 Masters champion, and Lowry, the 2019 British Open champion.

The best round of the day came from McIlroy, who went from even par to -6 after a score of 66. McIlroy’s most memorable shot was was an eagle on the 13th hole.

Meanwhile, this is the second time in the last five years that Rose has been the leader after the second round of the Masters. In 2021, Rose had a score of -7, and led Americans Brian Harman and Will Zalatoris by a stroke. He finished in seventh place at -5, and five strokes back of the winner, Hideki Matsuyama of Japan.
