Josh Giddey makes 47 foot buzzer beater in Bulls win over Lakers

For the second time in a week, Australian basketball star Josh Giddey of Melbourne, had a sensational game for the Chicago Bulls against the Los Angeles Lakers. After coming two steals away from becoming the fifth player in NBA history to record a quadruple double in a 146-1145 Bulls win over the Lakers on Saturday, Giddey made a sensational 47 foot buzzer beater in a 119-117 Bulls win on Thursday. Bulls power forward Patrick Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina had the assist.

This was the second longest buzzer beater this season. Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young of Lubbock, Texas accomplished the feat on January 7 with a 49 foot buzzer beater in a 124-121 Hawks win over the Utah Jazz. This was also the second straight night there was a buzzer beater. Los Angeles Lakers small forward LeBron James of Akron, Ohio made his eighth career buzzer beater on Wednesday in a 120-119 Lakers win over the Indiana Pacers at the age of 40.

Giddey finished the game with another triple double against the Lakers. After getting 15 points, 17 assists and 10 rebounds on Saturday, he had 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists on Thursday.

From a career perspective, Giddey set a career high in triple doubles this season with five. He has 16 triple doubles in his career, as his other 11 were with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This was Giddey’s first NBA career buzzer beater.

The Bulls have now won four straight games. Despite being seven games below .500, they are in the mix for the play-in tournament. Chicago is presently in ninth place in the East.
