Jordan Spieth recovering from coronavirus

According to Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press, we now know why we have not heard much about Jordan Spieth since his third-place finish at the Masters last month. That is because the three-time major champion suffered from coronavirus.

Spieth was not feeling well two days prior to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the only PGA Tour event that is a team competition. While he was still in his hometown of Dallas, Spieth got tested for coronavirus on April 20, and the result came back positive.

To date, there have been 2,925,244 cases of coronavirus in the state of Texas. There have also been 50,944 deaths. Only the state of California has had more cases than Texas (3,762,312), while only the states of California and New York have had more deaths than Texas. California has had 62, 363 fatalities, and New York has had 53,068 deaths. There are still 85,009 active cases of coronavirus in Texas.

Spieth was initially to compete in the Valspar Championship at Palm Harbor, Florida, but withdrew from that event. Among the symptoms he had included lack of energy, and issues with his sinuses. Spieth now claims he has been able to return to full workout sessions.

Now the question lies is whether or not Spieth will have his game in top form with the PGA Championship just around the corner? The second major of the year is set to start next Thursday from South Carolina.

Spieth, who won the Masters and United States Open in 2015, and the British Open in 2017, is one of three active players on the PGA Tour, who have won multiple majors and have tested positive for coronavirus. The others are Padraig Harrington of Dublin, Ireland, and Dustin Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina. Harrington won the British Open in 2007 and 2008, and the PGA Championship in 2008. Johnson won the United States Open in 2016, and the Masters in 2020.
