JOE Pride continued his red letter spring with a success in The Hunter with Coal Crusher and he couldn’t contain his admiration for the galloper after his win in the $1 million event at Newcastle.

In a spring where Pride has won three Group 1 races and The Everest the trainer rated that victory up there as one of his highlights.

The reason is that Coal Crusher is part-owned by his family and his son Brave was also his strapper.

The family embraced after he had crushed his rivals with his all the way win.

Pride said his son was in love with the galloper.

“That was fantastic, I love this horse but only about half as much as my son loves him,” Pride said.

“It’s his horse, he adores this horse and it’s really special for him.

“This is up there with the best of the moments, I’ve got to be honest.

The victory also continued Tyler Schiller’s rise to prominence as he led throughout on him to win.
