Jim Furyk named United States captain for 2024 Presidents Cup

According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, Jim Furyk of West Chester, Pennsylvania has been named the United States captain for the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
This will be the second time that Furyk will captain the Americans in a major international golf competition. He previously captained the United States at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Guyancourt, France, an event easily won by Europe 17.5 to 10.5.
Furyk is a major champion, as he won the 2003 United States Open championship, at Olympia Fields in Chicago, Illinois. He shot a four round score of -8 to beat Stephen Leaney of Busselton, Australia by three strokes.
Ironically, 2003 was the same year that the International Team captain Mike Weir of Sarnia, Ontario won his major. Weir, who will get the opportunity to captain an international team in his home country, became the first Canadian man to win a major title when he won the Masters 19 years ago.

A 17-time winner of the PGA Tour, Furyk has won five Presidents Cups and two Ryder Cups as a player. He won his five Presidents Cups in 2000 and 2005 in Gainesville, Virginia, in 2007 in Montreal, in 2009 in San Francisco, California, and in 2011 in Melbourne, Australia. Furyk won his two Ryder Cups in 1999 in Boston, Massachusetts, and in 2008 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Interesting that Furyk has actually been on seven American teams that lost the Ryder Cup and the 1998 and 2003 teams that did not win the Presidents Cup.
The United States won the last Presidents Cup in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2022. The American captain was 1997 PGA Championship winner Davis Love III of Charlotte, North Carolina.
