Jhonattan Vegas wins 2024 3M Championship

Jhonattan Vegas of Maturin, Venezuela has won the 2024 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota. This is Vegas’s fourth PGA title as he previously won the 2011 Bob Hope Classic and the 2016 and 2017 RBC Canadian Open titles, which were both held at Glen Abbey.

You would think the Canadian Open titles were the most northern PGA tiles Vegas has recorded in his career. Well, you are wrong. In fact, Blaine, Minnesota, United States is more north than Oakville, Ontario, Canada.

Vegas posted a winning score of -17 over the four day tournament that wrapped up on Sunday. He beat Max Greyserman of Short Hills, New Jersey by a stroke. Greyserman was all alone in second place at -16. There was then a two-way tie for third place as Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley, California and Matt Kuchar of Winter Park, Florida were tied for third place at -15. Then, speaking of Canada, all alone in fifth place was the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson champion Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, who was at -14.

In the four rounds of golf, Vegas posted a first round score of three-under-par 68, a second round score of five-under-par 66, a third round score of eight-under-par 63, and a fourth round score of one-under-par 70. It was interesting that three of the top five players at the 3M Open shot in the 70s on Sunday as Kuchar shot a 71 and McNealy shot a 70.

Vegas won the tournament despite a triple bogey seven on the seventh hole on Thursday. He rebounded with an eagle on the par five sixth hole on Friday.
