Jets sign quarterback Travis Siemian

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post on Wednesday, the New York Jets have signed quarterback Trevor Siemian of Windermere, Florida. The reason for the signing is because Zach Wilson of Draper, Utah has not been effective in three games for the Jets this season, and their starting quarterback to start the season, Aaron Rodgers of Chico, California is out for the season after a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in week one against the Buffalo Bills.

This will be the second time Siemian has been with the Jets. He was a backup to Sam Darnold in 2019. That year he completed three of six passes for only three yards.

Siemian has also played three seasons with the Denver Broncos from 2015 to 2017, one season with the New Orleans Saints (2021) and one season with the Chicago Bears (2022). A year ago in Chicago, Siemian was the backup to Justin Fields, and completed 15 of 26 passes for 184 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four rushes for eight rushing yards. Siemian’s lone start in 2022 came against the Jets. It was on November 27, in a 31-10 Jets win over the Bears.

In Siemian’s career, he has completed 621 passes in 1055 attempts for 7027 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes and 28 interceptions. He has also had 73 rushes for 211 rushing yards and two more major scores.

Even though Siemian has only joined the practice squad at this time, do not be surprised if he is the Jets starter before long. Wilson has only completed 44 of 84 passes, and has four interceptions, compared to two touchdown passes. One person who is a critic of Wilson is former Jets quarterback Joe Namath who told ESPN on Monday, “I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, all right.”
