Jenson Brooksby suspended 18 months for three missed drug tests in one year

According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, American tennis player Jenson Brooksby of Sacramento, California has been suspended 18 months by the International Tennis Integrity Agency for three missed drug tests within a span of a year. The 22-year-old does intend to appeal the ruling, and claims one time the doping agency tried to call him, his phone was on silent.
Brooksby takes responsibility for the other two missed tests, with the June 4 missed test, being the test in question at this time. He is not eligible to return to the ATP Tour until January 4, 2025. Brooksby follows Romanian star Simona Halep, who was suspended four years for two doping violations in September.
In 2023, Brooksby only competed at one major. That was the Australian Open, where he beat Christopher O’Connell of Sydney, Australia in the first round, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, and then shocked the second seed, Casper Ruud of Norway, 6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. Brooksby then underwent wrist surgery in March, and has not played since.
Brooksby’s last professional tennis match came in the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. There he lost to American Tommy Paul of Voorhees Township, who had an outstanding, but not surprising Australian Open, as he reached the semifinals.
In addition to reaching the third round of the 2023 Australian Open, Brooksby reached the fourth round of the 2021 United States Open, and the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon, and 2022 United States Open.
On the ATP Tour, Brooksby has reached three finals, but has been unable to win a tournament as of yet. He lost to Kevin Anderson of South Africa, 7-6, 6-4, in the final of the 2021 Hall of Fame in Rhode Island, 7-6, 7-6 to American Reilly Opelka in the final of the 2022 Dallas Open, and 6-3, 6-3 to Alex de Minaur of Australia in the final of the 2022 Atlanta Open.
