Jannik Sinner wins 2025 Erste Bank Open in Austria

Jannik Sinner of Italy has won the 2025 Erste Open in Vienna, Austria. On Sunday, Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev of Germany in the final, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

This was Sinner’s 22nd ATP title in his career. It was only the second time in a three set final that he lost the first set and won the match. Sinner also beat Carlos Alcaraz of Spain 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 at the 2022 Croatia Open.

Sinner has now won four ATP titles in 2025. He also beat Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the final of the 2025 Australian Open, beat Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the final of Wimbledon in 2025, and beat Learner Tien of the United States 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the 2025 China Open in Beijing.

This was Sinner’s second Erste Open title. The first came in 2023, as he beat Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the final, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Sinner was seeded first in Austria. He beat three seeded players during the tournament. Sinner also beat Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik (the eighth seed) 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, and Australia’s Alex de Minaur (the third seed), in the semifinals. In the final against Zverev, a key statistic was double faults. Sinner had one double fault, while Zverev had four double faults. Sinner also broke Zverev twice in eight opportunities, while Zverev broke Sinner one in four opportunities.

In the ATP World rankings, Sinner is second in the world with 10500 points. Alcaraz is the world number one with 11340 points. On Monday, the 2025 Paris Indoor 1000 Masters Series began. Sinner has a first round bye and will play Zizou Bergs of Belgium in the second round on Wednesday.
