Sinner was undefeated throughout the 2025 ATP Finals. He defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, 7-5, 6-1, Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3, and American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 in the Bjorn Borg Group. Then in the semifinals, Sinner beat Australia’s Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-3.
In Sinner’s win over Auger-Aliassime, the Italian got a little fortunate, as Auger-Aliassime was dealing with a knee injury that plagued him at times during the indoor hard court season. However, Auger-Aliassime rebounded quite well as he defeated Shelton 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 and Zverev 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semifinals.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, won four straight matches before losing to Sinner. He won the Jimmy Connors Group by beating de Minaur 7-6, 6-2, American Taylor Fritz 6-7, 7-5, 6-3, and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1. In the semifinal, Alcaraz beat Auger-Aliassime 6-2, 6-4.
Sinner has played Alcaraz 16 times in their careers with Alcaraz winning 10 times. It is only the second time in the last nine meetings that Sinner beat Alcaraz. Sinner did beat Alcaraz earlier this summer in the final of Wimbledon, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. It was Sinner’s first Wimbledon title.
