J.T. Poston of Hickory, North Carolina has won a PGA Tour tournament for the second time in his career. On Sunday, Poston posted a four-round score of -21 to win the 2022 John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Poston defeated Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo and South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout by three strokes each. Grillo and Bezuidenhout each posted scores of -18.

Poston had scores of nine-under-par 62 in round one, six-under-par 65 in round two, four-under-par 67 in round three, and two-under-par 69 in round four. Poston was a wire-to-wire winner. He may not have had his best fourth round in the event, but an excellent opening round on Thursday made up for some sluggish play in the middle stages of the opening nine in the final round on Sunday.

Poston had two eagles in the tournament. He eagled the second hole in the first round and the 17th hole in the third round. Both holes were on par fives.

According to the Associated Press, Poston was the third wire-to-wire winner in the history of the Jon Deere Classic. He followed Scott Hoch of Raleigh, North Carolina (1980), and David Frost of Cape Town, South Africa (1992).

There was a wire-to-wire winner last week in women’s golf. A week ago In-gee Chun of South Korea led all four rounds in winning the 2022 Women’s PGA Championship.

Poston’s first PGA Tour win was the 2019 Wyndham Championship. There he beat 2012 United States Open champion Webb Simpson by a stroke.

There was also another golf tournament played this past weekend. That was the controversial LIV Golf Portland Invitational, the first LIV event played in the United States. Just like the first tournament in London, a South African was victorious. Branden Grace was in the winner’s circle with a score of -13.
