International Team storms back to tie United States at 2024 Presidents Cup

Just when everyone expected the United States would steamroll past the International Team at the 2024 Presidents Cup at the Royal Montreal Golf Club after their dominant 5-0 lead on Thursday, it was the International Team that had a perfect Friday to tie the Presidents Cup at five wins apiece.

It was possibly the most successful day for the International Team in Presidents Cup history as they won five foursome matches. When the International Team beat clobbered the United States 20.5 to 11.5 at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, they never had a perfect session where they won all five matches.

On Friday, it was a sensational start for Hideki Matsuyama of Japan and Sung-jae Im of South Korea, as they defeated Americans Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 7 & 6. Matsuyama and Im won seven of the 12 holes, and had eight birdies along the way.

Then, Adam Scott of Australia and Taylor Pendrith of Canada beat Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa 5&4. This was a historical win for Scott, as with the victory, he won his 22nd match in the history of the Presidents Cup, the most matches ever won by the International Team. Ernie Els of Smith Africa had the old record with 21 wins.

That was followed by a 1 up victory by Christiaan Bezuiedenhout of South Africa and Jason Day of Australia over Max Horma and Brian Harman; a 6 & 5 victory by Canadians Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes over Tony Finau and Wyndham Clark; and a 1 up victory by South Koreans Si Woo Kim and Byeong Hun An over Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley. The day was capped off by an amazing putt of 15 feet by Kim.
