In-gee Chun maintains lead at KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

In-Gee Chun of Gunsan, South Korea is still in the lead at the 2022 Women’s PGA Championship in Potomac, Maryland. However, the lead has now shrunk to three strokes.
On Saturday, Chun struggled down the stretch in posting a score of three-over-par 75, but still sees her lead South Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi and Sei Young Kim, as well as American Lexi Thompson. Chun is at -8, while Choi, Kim and Thompson are all at -5.
The four golfers in contention have won a combined four majors in the past. Chun won the 2015 United States Women’s Open and the 2016 Evian Championship. Kim won the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship two years ago at the Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Thompson won the 2014 ANA Inspiration when the tournament was held annually in Rancho Mirage, California. The first major of the year in women’s golf has since moved to Houston, Texas and is now the Chevron Championship.

Over the first two days, Chun had an insurmountable lead. It was five strokes after round one and then six strokes after round two. However, there was clearly some vulnerability in Chun’s game for the third round as she bogeyed the 15th hole, and then double bogeyed the par-five 16th with a horrendous score of seven.
Despite the struggles on the back nine for round three, Chun is still the leader. It may not be the lead she was wishing for heading into the fourth round on Sunday, however many golfers would love to be leading the Women’s PGA Championship by three strokes prior to the final day of competition.
