Ilias given ‘two or three games’ to save his spot – by his own agent

Under fire St George Illawarra halfback Lachlan Ilias has been given “two or three games” to solve his inconsistency issues or risk being dropped by the most unlikely source — his player agent, Braith Anasta.

Anasta, who manages several NRL players and is a TV host on Fox Sports for some week-day shows, used his NRL 360 hosting seat to hit struggling Ilias with a very public warning.

“He’s got to be better, the weekend was a big miss from him,” Anasta told Fox Sports on Tuesday night. “He had the opportunity there to ice it and he went for the 40/20 and he got it wrong. You just can’t do that.”

Anasta didn’t let up either, pointing to the South Sydney Rabbitohs game the Dragons lost as another game where Ilias let things get away from him and may have contributed to the Dragons losing.

“The Rabbitohs game, we saw the backlash and it knocked him around a little bit,” Anasta said.

“I felt sick for him… I really did, because it was like living a nightmare.

“Obviously I’m passionate about him and look after him but he has got to be better.”

Ilias’ manager then needleded in on the 24-year-old’s role in St George Illawarra’s golden point loss to the Eels last Saturday. In the match, Ilias had the chance to totally ice things but instead lacked polish and then opened the door for Parramatta with a kick that went out on the full.

“It’s not even him having to win the game, you just can’t come up with an error like that. All he had to do was kick it long into the corner, try and win the field position and possession and get yourself into position to win,” Anasta explained.

“He eliminated all that with poor execution and as the number seven you can’t do that.”

Then came Anasta’s warning: “I don’t think he’ll have 10 rounds, it’s the next two or three weeks really.”

While Anasta’s barrage may have been particularly surprising considering his working relationship with Ilias, many would agree the NRL 360 host did mostly hit things on the head: The still-misfiring Dragons are 1-3 to start their 2025 run and two of those losses could be directly laid at Ilias and halves partner Kyle Flanagan’s feet.

Even worse for Ilias, the Dragons have a reserve halfback in Jonah Glover who has been tearing up the NSW Cup. It may only be a matter of time until Glover and Ilias swap teams.
