Iga Swiatek to miss Madrid Masters with an arm injury

Women’s world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland will be missing the 2022 Madrid Masters over the meet 10 days with an arm injury according to Ben Knapton of the Sports Mole. on Wednesday. Swiatek stated she believes her arm just needs rest, and hopes to be ready for the Italian Open and French Open in May.
Some outlets state that it was a shoulder injury, however Swiatek stated on Twitter that “after intense last few weeks and winning four titles in a row, it’s time to take care of my arm that has been fatigued since the Miami Open and I haven’t had the chance to handle it properly. I need a break from playing so intensively in order to treat my arm, and that’s why, unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open. My body needs rest. I’m going to take some time to prepare for Rome and Paris. See you soon there. Hopefully, I will play in Madrid many times in the future- looking forward to it.”

The four tournaments Swiatek won in a row were the Qatar Open where she beat Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, 6-2, 6-0 in the final, Indian Wells, where she beat Maria Sakkari of Greece, 6-4, 6-1 in the final, the Miami Open, where she clobbered Naomi Osaka of Japan, 6-4, 6-0 in the final, and the Stuttgart Open, where she beat Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 6-2, 6-2.
Swiatek moved to number one in the world following the stunning retirement of Ash Barty. At the Madrid Open, the new top seed will now be Spaniard Paula Badosa, the 2021 champion at Indian Wells.
