Iga Swiatek to face Jasmine Paolini in 2024 French Open women’s final

The 2024 French Open women’s final is set and the matchup is world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland versus the 12th seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy. In the semifinals, Swiatek defeated the third seed Coco Gauff of the United States, 6-2, 6-4, while Paolini defeated Mirra Andreeva of Russia, 6-3, 6-1.

Swiatek broke Gauff four times in the match. Serving accuracy was another key statistic as Swiatek had zero double faults, while Gauff had four. Another problem for Gauff was her forehand as several times Swiatek forced Gauff to return the ball, and the shot went wide. In all, Gauff had 39 unforced errors, while Swiatek only had 14.

Paolini and Andreeva both had six break point opportunities. The difference was that Paolini broke Andreeva four of the six chances, while Andreeva could not convert. Andreeva only won 35% of her second serve points (compared to 58% for Paolini). Once again unforced errors were a key statistic as Andreeva had 30, while Paolini had 10.

Swiatek is competing in her fifth grand slam final on Saturday in Paris, and has won her prior four. She beat Sofia Kenin of the United States 6-4, 6-1 in the 2020 French Open final, Coco Gauff of the United States 6-1, 6-2 in the 2022 French Open final, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 6-2, 7-6 in the 2022 United States Open final, and Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the 2023 French Open final.

Head-to-head, Swiatek has beaten Paolini twice in the past. Swiatek won 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of Prague on clay in 2018, and then won 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the 2022 United States Open.
