How much better will the Eagles be with defensive end Robert Quinn?

The Philadelphia Eagles made a significant trade on Wednesday by acquiring defensive end Robert Quinn of Ladson, South Carolina from the Chicago Bears according to Andrew Seligman and Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press. In return, the Bears will receive a fourth round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Eagles will become the fifth National Football League franchise Quinn has played for following the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys and Bears. This past season in Chicago, he had eight combined tackles (six solo tackles and two combined tackles), two tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, and one sack.

Quinn is an elite defensive player. He was selected to the Pro Bowl while with the St. Louis Rams in 2013 and 2014, and with the Bears in 2021. In 163 games, Quinn has 367 combined tackles (284 solo tackles and 83 assisted tackles), 109 tackles for a loss, 176 quarterback hits, 102 quarterback hits, 20 pass deflections, 32 forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries for 33 yards and one touchdown. The 31-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown came on November 24, 2013 in a 42-21 Rams win over the Bears. Also in Quinn’s career, he led the NFL in tackles for a loss (23) in 2013, and forced fumbles (five) in 2014.

The real question from this National Football Conference deal is how much better could the Eagles be with Quinn in their lineup? Don’t forget the Eagles are undefeated right now and any change to their roster could impact team chemistry. At first glance Philadelphia is trying to follow in the footsteps of the Los Angeles Rams, when they acquired Von Miller. It worked for the Rams last year as they won the Super Bowl. Will it work for the Eagles in 2022? Time will tell, but things were going great for Philadelphia so far this year, and Eagles Nation will hope that trend will continue.
