Holloway Wears Down Ortega To Successfully Defend Featherweight Title

Max Holloway has brutalised a brave Brian Ortega to defend his Featherweight title at Scotiabank Arena in Canada.

The long anticipated bout began like many expected with Holloway landing many significant combinations in the opening stages. Ortega refused to be caught on the back foot though, initiating many exchanges despite his opponents well known strength in this area.

Holloway’s ability to switch stances continually shook his opponent. He was equally damaging with straight rights and lefts in his regular and southpaw stances.

Many believed that if the fight was taken to the ground then Ortega would be too strong but this wasn’t the case in the rare instances the fighters left their feet. Holloway’s ability to defend takedowns and clinches was far too strong for his opponent.

Ortega’s ability to withstand flurry after flurry was equally as impressive as Holloway’s ability to control the fight with his hands.

After sustaining a broken nose early in the second round, a huge amount of swelling began to become evident under Ortega’s left eye, a sign of the damage the champion’s right straight was causing.

Holloway continued to control the fight in the fourth, Ortega would not lie down easily though, responding with counter punches that often stung Holloway.

At the conclusion of the 4th round the fight was stopped as a result of the significant damage to the face of Ortega.
