Hideki Matsuyama wins 2025 Sentry with a record score of -35

It was a record setting performance on Sunday by 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan this past weekend. At the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii, Matsuyama shot a four round score of -35. That is the best score ever for a PGA Tour event. The previous record belonged to Cameron Smith of Brisbane, who had a score of -34 at the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Matsuyama had a first, second and fourth round score of eight-under-par 65. In the third round, Matsuyama was even better. He actually had a score in the double digits under par as he was -11.

During the 72 holes, Matsuyama recorded two eagles. He posted a score of three on the par five 15th hole on Thursday, and then had a score of two on the par four third hole in the fourth round on Sunday. In Matsuyama’s first round eagle, he made a putt from five feet and seven inches. His tee shot was 284 yards and his approach shot was 252 yards. In Matsuyama’s fourth round eagle, he made a remarkable approach shot from 107 yards after his tee shot went 316 yards.

There was only one golfer in contention. That was two-time major winner Colin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California, who was in second place at -32. Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 British Open. 

This was Matsuyama’s 11th PGA title. In addition to the Masters and Sentry, he previously won the 2014 Memorial, the 2016 and 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Open, the 2016 WGC HSBC Champions, the 2017 WGC Bridgestone Invitational, the 2021 Zozo Championship, the 2022 Sony Open, the 2024 Genesis Invitational and the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
