Hideki Matsuyama has won the 2024 Genesis Open. On Sunday, Matsuyama shot a four round score of -17 and beat Americans Will Zalatoris and Luke List by four strokes each.

Matsuyama posted a first round score of two-under-par, second round score of three-under-par 68, third round score of three-under-par 68, and a sizzling fourth round score of nine-under-par 62. Matsuyama had one eagle in his second round. He posted a score of three on the par five 11th hole. Then in the final round, Matsuyama birdied the first, second, third, 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes.

This was Matsuyama’s ninth PGA Tour title, but first in the state of California. Matsuyama will forever be remembered for winning the 2021 Masters title.

Patrick Cantlay had a fantastic start to the Genesis Open. He had an opening round score of seven-under-par 64, and second round score of six-under-par 65. However in the final two rounds, Cantlay was unable to dominate, and only shot one-under-par on Saturday, and one-over-par on Sunday, to finish the week in fourth place at -13.

This was the second straight week there was a bizarre disqualification. After round two, Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas, the three-time major champion (2015 Masters, 2015 United States Open and 2017 British Open), was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. He put a score of par on his scorecard when he actually had a bogey according to Ryan Lavner of NBC Sports. Then over a week ago at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, 2009 United States Open Lucas Glover of Greenville, South Carolina withdrew from the event for missing a tee time.
