Hae Ran Ryu leads after the third round of the 2024 Chevron Championship

The third round of the 2024 Chevron Championship took two separate days to complete, but on Sunday morning, we knew who would be in contention for the final round of the first major of the year in women’s golf. The Chevron Championship leader at this time after 54 holes is Hae Ran Ryu of South Korea.
The 23-year-old from Seoul is currently at -11. After a first round score of even par, Ryu shot a second round score of six under par and a third round score of five under par.
Ryu’s first round had one eagle, four birdies and six bogeys. She eagled the eighth hole, birdied the fourth, seventh, 11th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the first, third, sixth, 10th, 12th, and 14th holes. In the second and third rounds, Ryu did not have a single bogey and is a major reason why she is in the lead. In the second round, Ryu had six birdies. She birdied the first, third, fourth, eighth, 14th and 18th holes. In the third round, Ryu had five birdies. She birdied the fourth, eighth, 13th, 14th and 18th holes.
The major story in the third round was the fact that Canadian and two-time major champion Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario climbed 19 places up the leaderboard from 21st place to second. She went from -2 to -10 after one eagle, seven birdies and one bogey. Henderson, who won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship and 2022 Evian Championship, is looking for her third major title.
Henderson is currently tied for second place with American Nelly Korda. Another major champion, Korda won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship. There are then three golfers tied for fourth place at -8. Those three strokes back are Sweden’s Maja Stark, South Korea’s Jin Hee Im, and Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul.
