Golf: Three golfers who could win the FedEx St. Jude Championship

The FedEx Cup Playoffs start on Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship from TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. I know the PGA Tour puts a lot of emphasis on the FedEx Cup Playoffs every year and try to make the next three weeks spectacular before the National Football League starts. I just don’t have enthusiasm at all in this stretch, as I put a lot of personal emphasis and interest in the four major championships which are filled with history, nostalgia and prestige. Here are the three golfers we like this week the most.

Scottie Scheffler

The defending FedEx Cup champion was $25 million richer after winning at the Tour Championship in Atlanta a year ago. Why we like Scheffler (+280) so much is his consistency. It is not just because he has won four PGA events in 2025 (CJ Cup Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, Memorial and British Open), it is because Scheffler has been incredibly consistent. He has not missed the cut in three years. It just so happened to be the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Hideki Matsuyama

The defending champion from Matsuyama, Japan was exceptional at Southwind a year ago. He posted a four round score of -17, the best score since the tournament became part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in 2022. Matsuyama (+3200), has a history of shooting low. He ended at -35 when he won the Sentry in January.

Victor Hovland

The native of Oslo won the 2023 FedEx Cup. He then finished second to Matsuyama at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship a year ago. Hovland has one PGA Tour win already this year. It came at the Valspar Championship in March.
