Golf: Three golfers who could win the 3M Open

After two weeks in Europe, the best golfers on the PGA Tour return to Minnesota for the 3M Open. Here are the three golfers we like the most this week. 

Chris Gotterup

Raise your hand if anyone had ever heard of Chris Gotterup of Easton, Maryland before he won the Scottish Open?  My answer is no. Prior to his victory in East Lothian, he was the 158th ranked player in the world. Now after a third place finish at the British Open, Gotterup has skyrocketed to 27th in the world rankings and is the co-favourite at +1800 to win in Minnesota. We know the weather could be similar in Minnesota to the United Kingdom, but we do not know if Gotterup can perform great on a non-links golf course. Time will tell.

Sam Burns

The other golfer at +1800 this week is American Sam Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana. The reason why Burns needs to be considered is because he has made 11 straight cuts, including three top 10 finishes. Burns lost in an exciting playoff to New Zealand’s Ryan Fox at the Canadian Open, finished fifth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and seventh at the U.S. Open.

Maverick McNealy

I first became aware of Maverick McNealy (+2000)  a few years ago when former American Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice said during a Golf Channel promo that her favourite PGA Tour golfer was McNealy. They have a connection through Stanford University. McNealy, the world number 18, has had four top five finishes in 2025. He was second at the Genesis, third at the Texas Open and RBC Heritage, and fifth at the Memorial.
