Golf: Three golfers that can win the 2025 Travelers Championship

If you need a break from watching golf after watching four exhausting rounds at the 2025 United States Open in Oakmont this past weekend, I understand. As for the rest of you who are involved in golf pools, and even doing terrible, like myself (picked Joaquin Niemann and Bryson DeChambeau who were a combined +20 at Oakmont, in my one and done pool), here are the three best bets.

Sepp Straka

Unlike last week, this week in Connecticut, you are going to see a ton of birdies. Sepp Straka of Vienna, Austria (+4000), the two-time winner on the PGA Tour this year (The American Express and the Truist Championship), has delivered with a lot of birdies. He is second on the PGA Tour this season with 4.61 birdies per round. In Straka’s two tournaments in 2025 where he was the champion, he had a combined score of -41.

Justin Thomas

You can compare PGA Tour golfer Justin Thomas (+2200) to Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner. You are either going to see greatness or not very good production at all. Thomas finished second at the Truist Championship last month (behind Straka) with a score of -14, and since then has missed three cuts with a combined total score of +20. Thomas is the birdie average leader on the PGA Tour in 2025 at 4.62.

Harry Hall

Staying with the birdie theme, it may be worth considering England’s Harry Hall of Camborne, who is third on the list with 4.5 birdies per round. Hall (+9000) has made the cut in his last nine tournaments and is entering the Travelers’s very fresh as he did not compete at the U.S. Open a week ago.
