IT’S hard to reconcile how much money Giga Kick has won in his ten starts already and what his potential earnings could end up as at the end of his career.
After his win in the Doomben 10,000 he’s won seven of his ten starts and just under $10,000,000 in stake money which could double as soon as his next campaign.
The Clayton Douglas trained three-year-old gelding is also Australia’s best racehorse. He’s a throwback to a horse such as the star of 40 years ago Manikato who didn’t always win by big margins but he invariably got the job done.
Manikato won 29 races and it wouldn’t be a surprise when Giga Kick retires he could boast a similar number and if that’s the case his prizemoney earnings would be mind-boggling.
Like Manikato, Giga Kick appears to have the capacity to run over a longer trip but is there any need to?
He was so strong at the end of the All-Aged Stakes, he suggested 1600m and even 2000m couldn’t be beyond him.

His win in the Doomben 10,000 was by his standards workmanlike. Craig Williams positioned him a bit closer in the run because of the Doomben track and he was still able to win in comfortable style.
Douglas is setting Giga Kick for another tilt at The Everest and is also likely to then target the Golden Eagle.
Down the track, Douglas and owner Jonathan Munz can continue to please themselves as to what they want to do with him. There’s little point taking him overseas as the prizemoney doesn’t match what’s on offer at home.
Maybe next year they can also set him for the All-Star Mile to see whether he can run the 1600 metres out as well.
Maybe as a five-year-old they might want to try a Cox Plate but these days you don’t have to as the stake money is so good in other races.
Or they just keep coming back for The Everest, year after year and then follow the same template they used for this year’s Sydney carnival.
Regardless, expect the stake money to just keep piling on.
