Giants trade defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to Cowboys

There was a rare trade made on Thursday between NFC East Division rivals. The Dallas Cowboys acquired defensive lineman Jordan Phillips of Towanda, Kansas from the New York Giants with a seventh round pick in the 2026 National Football League Draft for a sixth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft according to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.
Phillips never played for the Giants. He signed with the Giants in free agency on April 11 to a one-year contract worth $1.21 million. Phillips becomes the second player this week to be traded by a team without playing a single regular season game by them. Earlier in the week, the Seattle Seahawks traded center Nick Harris to the Cleveland Browns without ever playing a game for Seattle.
Phillips has previously played for three NFL franchises. They were with the Miami Dolphins from 2015 to 2018, the Buffalo Bills in 2018 and 2019, and again in 2022 and 2023, and the Arizona Cardinals from 2020 to 2021. In 2023 with the Bills, Phillips played in 14 games and had 15 combined tackles (10 solo tackles and five assisted tackles), two tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits, five pass deflections and two and a half sacks.
The Cowboys tried to improve their defense this week, but there are genuine concerns at this time to the Dallas offense. Specifically, there are questions about Dallas’s running back situation and receiving corps. Dallas has brought back Ezequiel Elliott, who has not played like an elite calibre back the last couple of seasons, while wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is holding out.
