The San Francisco Giants have signed infielder Luis Arraez of San Felipe, Venezuela according to AJ Eustace and Charlie Wright of MLB Trade Rumors on Saturday. The terms of the condition are for one year and worth $12 million.
Arraez is joining his fourth Major League Baseball franchise. He was previously with the Minnesota Twins for four seasons (2019 to 2022), the Miami Marlins for two seasons (2023 to 2024). and the San Diego Padres (2024 to 2025).
Throughout his Major League Baseball career, Arraez has been known as a consistent contact hitter without a lot of power. He has led the National League in hits the last two seasons (200 in 2024 and 181 in 2025). Arraez was also the American League batting champion in 2022 (batted .316), had the best batting average in Major League Baseball in 2023 (batted .354) and had the best batting average in the National League in 2024 (batted .314). This past season, Arraez also led the National League with 12 sacrifice bunts.

Still, the lack of power in Arraez’s swing is one reason why critics would argue that San Francisco overpaid for Arraez. He only has 36 dingers in 840 games.
One thing Arraez does bring to the Giants is defensive versatility. He has played 359 games at second base and 263 games at first base.
This past season for the Padres, Arraez batted .292 with eight home runs and 61 runs batted in. During 154 games, 620 at bats, and 675 plate appearances, Arraez scored 66 runs, and had 30 doubles, four triples, 11 stolen bases, 34 walks, 243 total bases, seven sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .327 and a slugging percentage of .392.
