Gabe Jackson signs long-term deal with Seahawks after trade from Raiders

There is no question that the Seattle Seahawks needed to improve their offensive line during the offseason. Last year, Russell Wilson had to do way too much by himself, and was not given adequate time and space. One glaring statistic is the fact Wilson was sacked a NFL-high 52 times, even though he is considered one of the game’s best mobile quarterbacks.
Wilson is under contract through to the 2023 National Football League season, but the rumours of him being moved elsewhere do not seem to be going away. Keeping Wilson happy while quarterbacking the Seahawks offense has become a priority of Seahawks General Manager John Schneider.
On Tuesday, the Seahawks signed newly-acquired offensive guard Gabe Jackson of Liberty, Mississippi to a three-year contract worth $22.575 million according to Brady Henderson and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Jackson had not been with the Seahawks for very long. He was traded from the Oakland Raiders to Seattle only 10 days ago for a fifth-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jackson had spent the last seven seasons with the Raiders organization. The first six seasons while the franchise was in Oakland, and last year when they were in Las Vegas. He was initially the Raiders’ third-round draft pick, 81st overall, in the 2014 National Football League Draft out of Mississippi State.
Discipline has been a bit of a problem for Jackson during his career, however. In 2017, in a game against the Denver Broncos, Jackson was ejected for pushing an official. Then last season, he was ejected for stomping on Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, and was subsequently fined $12,500. Now the pressure will be on Jackson to channel his inner energy and focus on protecting the face of the franchise in Wilson.
