G1 Metropolitan Preview & Analysis
6 years ago - Sportingbase
The Metropolitan is always hard to pick the winner as there are many different form lines all coming together but Chris Camilleri has taken a look and has given us his analysis and selections.
Distance
- 2400m
Track Conditions
- Good (4)
- Rail: 3m Entire

Track Bias
Expecting a relatively even track with all runners getting their chance dependant on individual race pace.

Early Speed
- Average
Stampede (8) will show it’s usual fast early speed to take up the running at an average early pace, the stablemate Hush Writer (7) should sit outside the speed with Come Play With Me (3), Attention Run (11) & Sir Charles Road (9) handy.

Top Pick
The Mark Newnham trained 15. Scarlet Dream finally gets out to a distance she has been wanting this preparation, the mare was very good first up over 1500m at Randwick then got too far back in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes over 2000m, she didn’t seem to handle the soft track conditions but was still going through the line well, back to a good surface is ideal and gets a beautiful run just off the speed from barrier 2.
Danger
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott trained 13. Hush Writer looks set to peak here third up, fought on well late in the Group 3 Newcastle Cup over 2300m, had to make a long sustained sprint and the most impressive part of the race was the final 100m where the gelding was coming away from them so the step to 2400m wont be an issue. Tim Clark retains the ride and from barrier 7 will settle outside the speed set by Stampede.

Lay
Opposed to the Chris Waller trained 8. Come Play With Me who was only fair in the Kingston Town over 2000m, would of liked to have seen the gelding hit the line as lot stronger than he did and stepping up to 2400m looks a big query against these.
Betting Strategy
Back – Scarlet Dream (1 Unit Win Bet)
Back – Hush Writer (1 Unit Win Bet)
Lay – Come Play With Me ($9.00 or below)
