According to Reuters Media, we now know the locations of the next four British Opens. On Monday, it was announced by the R&A (Royal and Ancient), that Royal Liverpool will be the host site in 2023, and Royal Troon will be the host site in 2024. The British Opens in Liverpool, and Troon, will follow the 2021 British Open at Royal St. George’s and the 2022 British Open in St. Andrews.

The announcement was made back in April that Royal St. George’s and St. Andrews would host the 2021 and 2022 British Open events respectively. The 2020 British Open was to be held at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England, but was cancelled due to coronavirus.

There have been 1,750,241 cases of coronavirus in Great Britain, and 62,033 deaths. The total number of active cases, and people who have recovered in Great Britain have not been available for quite some time on the Worldometer website.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club has hosted the British Open a dozen times before. Royal Troon meanwhile has hosted the British Open nine times. The years the British Open was in Liverpool were 1897, 1902, 1907, 1913, 1924, 1930, 1936, 1947, 1956, 1967, 2006, and 2014. Among the prior champions have been Americans Walter Hagen, Bobby Jones, and Tiger Woods. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland was the last British Open champion there in 2017. Woods meanwhile had the best four round score there at -18 in 2006.

Royal Troon hosted the British Open in 1923, 1950, 1962, 1973, 1982, 1989, 1997, 2004, and 2016. Among the former champions are Americans Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard, and Todd Hamilton. However, it was in 2016, that Royal Troon became famous, as it was at this course where Sweden’s Henrik Stenson shot a four-round score of -20. Stenson’s -20, is tied for the best score ever put together in a major. Jason Day was -20 at the 2015 PGA Championship, and Dustin Johnson was -20 at the 2020 Masters.
