Fullback future: Dragons formally table $1m extension for Sloan
2 years ago - Sportingbase
St George Illawarra has officially started proceedings to retain fullback Tyrell Sloan, tabling the 21-year-old young gun a $1 million contract extension that would keep him in the Red V through to at least 2026.
The club has been holding informal talks with Sloan’s management for some time now, with the Dragons fullback off contract at the end of 2024, but this is the first time they’ve put anything on paper. The Sporting Base understands Sloan has told the club he’s very eager to stay and play on as the club’s number one well into the future.

There have been question marks around Sloan’s future in the NRL, especially considering he’s already played 46 games and still has some glaring issues in the role, but Shane Flanagan’s arrival has turned many of those concerns around.
In 2024, the 21-year-old has already scored seven tries in 10 appearances.
Sloan’s attack has always been quite good—and he’s averaging 115 running metres a game this year—but eyes will now turn to how he can play the matches on the other side of the ball. Flanagan’s biggest focus with the young gun has been his defence, and reports coming from Illawarra camps suggest things are already improving.

This Sloan offer has been a long time coming, with the Dragons basically putting their eggs into one basket after letting Zac Lomax leave to join the Parramatta Eels next year.
