FREEDMAN’S READY TO FIGHT FOR CAULFIELD CUP
2 years ago - Sportingbase
SAM Freedman is hoping he can add another generation of his family to the Caulfield Cup roll call of winners when he saddles up Without A Fight with his father Anthony.
Anthony was assistant trainer to his brother Lee when he trained the Caulfield Cup winner on four occasions which were Mannerism (1993), Paris Lane (1994), Doriemus (1995) and Mummify (2003) but he also hasn’t trained one in his own right.

Sam Freedman was relieved that for the first time in Australia Without A Fight had been able to get a good barrier draw which would open up riding options for him.
Without A Fight drew barrier seven which is the best he has drawn in his four Australian starts.
“I’m very happy with the barriers he’s been drawing poor gates. He’s drawn a gate so we can hold a spot closer to on the speed,” the co-trainer said on Racing.Com.
“He’s brilliant. He’s very fit going into the race after his first-up run. The thinking was he’s looking for a mile and a half,” Freedman said.
Freedman said they were happy to bypass the Turnbull Stakes with Without A Fight after he had run sixth in the Underwood Stakes.
Freedman said European stayers didn’t have to have a lot of racing and didn’t need to run every two weeks.
Freedman said that it was also a confidence boost that Mark Zahra had committed to ride Without A Fight when he had the option of staying with Gold Trip.

“He knows the horse very well and he was very keen to ride the horse. He’s been glowing with confidence.”
