A miracle we are racing with the rain we’ve had, Belmont Park must be situated in the luckiest little pocket on the Swan River in WA. Heavy 8 track with the potential for a downgrade with further rain to come this afternoon.

The two top picks here met last time out on a Heavy track at Pinjarra and there wasn’t a great deal between them, going to side up with the on-speed runner of the two in Beneath The Covers, who was caught off the track throughout there on a bog track and never gave it up to run into 2nd there. Gets the blinkers on here for the first time, gets through the going and should find the top and get the first crack at a fresh inside pad, think she looks hard to run down.

Happy to save here on Mr Megsey, who looks suited getting out to the 1400m.Was the run of the race behind the top pick from that same race at Pinjarra, draws for a far more economical run here in 4 and can prove to be the testing material in a race that lacks real depth amongst the other contenders.

Race 2 – 1:14PM TABTOUCH-BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

The punters haven’t missed ($2.25-$1.75 some places this morning..) but Dais does indeed look like the best bet of the day. Was super last start in a strong CL1 behind a very progressive, talented horse in Knot Secret and she’s a genuine wet track mare, with 3 starts for a win and 2 2nd placings on rain-affected going. Weight off her back with the claim for Taj, meets a very moderate CL3 field and you know she absolutely swims, she looks incredibly hard to beat. $2.30 my bet price and hoping we see something of that nature closer to jump although I can’t see what else the money will come for.

Thought the recent trial of Rathmine Lady on Heavy going was superb in her first hitout for a new stable. Barrier 1 probably not the right draw for her here, but if she can stay within striking distance in the small field which very much suits, she is more than capable of being in the finish here fresh.

Leniency went to the line in his most recent trial just as good, if not better than Trespassing, who came out and ran a belter of a 1st up race behind Baby Paris on Saturday, which gives a pretty good line into the strength of that trial form. Should position up in a very nice position for Troy Turner from the gate and looks very hard to beat on debut, certainly has ability.

Happy to back/save here with the Durrant debutant Hoba West who has trialled up very nicely for this assignment. Loved the way he hit the line in his most recent on Heavy going, looked to get through the conditions very well. Drawn a good gate for his first trip to the races, Holly’s claim brings him down to 57 and she’s riding in super form at the moment, $7 over my marked price.
