According to Jeff Legwold of ESPN on Monday, star wide receiver Demaryius Thomas of Montrose, Georgia has retired from the National Football League at age 33. Thomas, who played in the NFL from 2010 to 2019, had hoped to play somewhere this past season. However, he could not find a team to sign with, even though the New York Jets expressed some interest according to Spencer Aber of USA Today, and the fact that Thomas stated he really wanted to play for the Broncos because he was healthy according to Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports.

Thomas played with the Broncos from 2010 to 2018, seven games with the Houston Texans in 2018, and then 11 games with the New York Jets in 2019. In 143 career regular season games, Thomas had 724 catches for 9763 yards and 63 touchdowns.

For three straight seasons from 2012 to 2014, Thomas reached double figures in touchdown catches. He had 10 touchdown catches in 2012, a career-high 14 touchdown catches in 2013, and 11 touchdown catches in 2014. In the 2014 NFL season, Thomas had a career-high 1619 receiving yards, which was a Broncos franchise record.

Thomas holds many other Broncos receiving records. They include receiving yards in a single game (226 in a 41-20 Denver win over the Arizona Cardinals on October 5, 2014), receptions in a playoff career (53), receptions in a playoff season (28 in 2013), receptions in a playoff game (13 in Super Bowl XLVIII), and receiving yards in a single playoff game (204 in a 29-24 Denver win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wildcard on January 8, 2012). Thomas also shares the Broncos record for most receiving touchdowns in the regular season (14 in 2013) with Anthony Miller.

Thomas was initially drafted by the Broncos in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech. The five time Pro-Bowler from 2012 to 2016, was part of the Broncos team that won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.
