Former Celtics All-Star Rajon Rondo retires at age 38

Former National Basketball Association point guard Rajon Rondo of Louisville, Kentucky retired  at the age of 38 according to Alex Butler of Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday. Rondo played 16 seasons in the NBA from 2006 to 2022. He was with the Boston Celtics from 2006 to 2014, the Dallas Mavericks from 2014 to 2015, the Sacramento Kings from 2015 to 2016, the Chicago Bulls from 2016 to 2017, the New Orleans Pelicans from 2017 to 2018, the Los Angeles Lakers from 2018 to 2020, and again from 2021 to 2022, the Atlanta Hawks from 2020 to 2021, the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021, and the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2021 to 2022.

In 957 games, Rondo averaged 9.8 points per game, 7.9 assists per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 1.6 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .456, three point percentage of .324, and a free throw percentage of .611.

Three times Rondo led the NBA in assists per game. He had 11.7 assists per game with the Celtics in 2011-12, 11.1 assists per game with the Celtics in 2012-13, and 11.7 assists per game with the Kings in 2015-16. Rondo also had a NBA high 2.3 steals per game in 2009-10.

Rondo also led the NBA in steals while with the Celtics in 2009-10 (189), triple doubles while with the Celtics in 2011-12 (six), triple doubles while with the Celtics in 2012-13 (five), and assists while with the Kings in 2015-16 (839).

For four straight seasons Rondo was a NBA All-Star. He was honoured in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13. Rondo also won two NBA Finals in his career. He was with the Celtics when they beat the Los Angeles Lakers in six games in 2008, and then was with the Lakers when they beat the Miami Heat in six games in 2020.
