Former 49ers Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield sentenced to jail

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison for raping a 31-year-old developmentally disabled woman on April 9, 2015. Stubblefield, who was originally found guilty for the crime in July, had arranged to meet the woman at his house in Morgan Hill, California, with the interest of hiring her for a babysitting position.
In addition to being found guilty of rape, Stubblefield was found guilty of using a gun, and was convicted of forcible oral copulation according to the Associated Press. He paid the woman $80, however, the woman went immediately to police. DNA evidence proved Stubblefield’s involvement.
This is the second time Stubblefield was sentenced to prison. In 2010, he was sentenced to 90 days for stealing an ex-girlfriend’s mail.
Stubblefield played 11 seasons in the National Football League with the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Oakland Raiders. In 154 games from 1993 to 2003, Stubblefield had 434 tackles, 53.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries, and two interceptions.
A three-time Pro Bowler, (1994, 1995, and 1997), Stubblefield also won the Super Bowl with the 49ers in 1995. In Super Bowl XXIX from Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida, Stubblefield registered one sack in a 49-26 49ers win over the San Diego Chargers.

Also during his NFL career, Stubblefield won two significant NFL awards while playing for the 49ers. In 1993 he was named the National Football League Rookie of the Year, and in 1997 was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In 1993, Stubblefield had 64 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. In 1997, Stubblefield had 61 combined tackles (48 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles), and set career highs in sacks (15), and forced fumbles (three).
