It has been an exceptionally busy week in the NBA. Here are the top five headlines.
5) Game Winning Buzzer Beater.
On Saturday, Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets delivered the clutch shot of the week. In a 103-103 tie, the center from Greenville, South Carolina made a two-point layup at the rim as time expired to give the Nets a 105-103 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The game was also a significant upset as the Nets were a 11.5 point underdog.
4) Hornets sting Lakers.
In the first NBA game played after the All-Star Break, the Los Angeles Lakers were not expected to have a difficult time in beating the Charlotte Hornets as they were a 12.5 point favourite with LeBron James and Luka Doncic in the starting lineup. It was the Hornets that came away with a 100-97 win. At the time, the Lakers were 32-20, and the Hornets were 13-39. Hornets forward Miles Bridges led Charlotte with 29 points.
3) Timberwolves tied biggest comeback in franchise history.
Minnesota was down 82-57 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the third quarter on Monday when they stormed back to outscore OKC 74-46 en route to a 131-128 overtime win. The 25-point comeback was tied for the biggest comeback in Minnesota history. The Timberwolves previously came back from a 25 point deficit to beat the Charlotte Hornets 105-101 on March 1, 1996. The comeback was also an upset as Minnesota was a 12 point underdog.
2) Trail Blazers set franchise record for largest blowout in a game.
Portland beat the Hornets 141-88 on Saturday, and in the process set a franchise record for largest blowout in a game (53 points). Portland previously beat Cleveland 129-79 on November 21, 1982.
1) Hype for anticipated tilt.
The most anticipated game of the season takes place on Tuesday as the Mavericks and Lakers play their first game against each other since the blockbuster deal involving Doncic and Anthony Davis. There has been significant hype about this game all week. Dallas is at 31 wins and 27 losses (eight in the Western Conference), and Los Angeles is at 34 wins and 21 losses.
