Five highest scoring players dealt at the trade deadline

The National Basketball Association had its trade deadline on Thursday with a dozen moves made over the last 48 hours. Here are the top five offensive scorers who were moved at the deadline (points per game used, not total points).

5) Alec Burks–This shooting guard from Grandview, Missouri, was averaging 16.1 points per game this season with the Golden State Warriors. Getting a chance to have a lot of playing time with the influx of Golden State injuries, Burks was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers late Wednesday night with Glenn Robinson III for three draft picks. Burks had just scored 30 points in a 125-117 Warriors win over the Washington Wizards on Monday.

4) Andre Drummond–A rebounding machine, Drummond is the near the top of the NBA on an annual basis in rebounds. This season with the Detroit Pistons, he was averaging 15.8 boards per game, the most in the league. The two-time all-star was also averaging 17.8 points per game. Now that he has been traded from Detroit to Cleveland with a second round pick for Brandon Knight, John Henson and a second round pick, the Cavaliers will have to figure out what to do with their three big men. Keeping Drummond, Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love all on the roster may create a problem.

3) Marcus Morris–There has been one word that best describes the New York Knicks season in 2019-20. That is chaos. Despite all the turmoil, Marcus Morris was enjoying a career year as he was averaging 19.6 points per game. Morris was moved from the Knicks to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-way deal that also involved the Washington Wizards. He has the capability of solidifying the Clippers power forward position and give Kawhi Leonard and Paul George more space to do their thing on the court.

2) Andrew Wiggins–A lot was expected from the former number one overall pick, but Andrew Wiggins never really found his mojo in Minnesota. A change in scenery just might do him best. The Toronto native who seldom plays for Team Canada internationally anymore, was averaging 22.4 points per game this season with career highs in rebounds (5.2) and assists (3.7). Wiggins was traded from the second worst team in the West to the worst (the Golden State Warriors).

1) D’Angelo Russell–This was not the season that D’Angelo Russell had anticipated. At the beginning of the season he was expected to be part of a solid Warriors squad that included Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. However Curry broke his hand at the beginning of the season and the Warriors never responded. At 12 wins and 40 losses, they have the worst record in the NBA. On Thursday, they traded Russell to the Timberwolves for Wiggins. Russell, who was averaging 23.6 points per game, will have just as many headaches in Minnesota as he did in San Francisco. The Timberwolves have a 13 game losing streak and no immediate improvement seems to be on the horizon.
