Farewell in Paris: Murray to bow out with Olympic Games swan song

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray will play his last tennis tournament this month, with the veteran announcing his 19-year career will end with a swan song at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Murray, who recently turned 37, has been on the goodbye tour for some time now, recently playing out his last-ever Wimbledon campaign in the doubles with his brother Jamie.
There were building rumours that he would bow out sometime in 2024, and now the site of his last ever professional tennis tournament has been confirmed—the red Paris clay at Roland Garros, where he made the big dance in 2016. That same calendar year he won his third Grand Slam championship at Wimbledon some weeks later.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist confirmed the news on social media.
“Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament,” Murray wrote on X (formerly Twitter) today. “Competing for Team GB has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get to do it one final time.”

Murray’s career has been steeped with history as the Scottish champion went toe to toe with titans of the game like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal through the years. His stunning 2013 Wimbledon triumph, when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–4, 7–5, 6–4, ended a 77-year wait for a British player to win the illustrious event again.
The 37-year-old briefly retired in 2019 after having to go through two hip surgeries and never truly recovered. His last ATP title came in late 2019 when he won at Antwerp. Before that, he played in nine Grand Slam deciders.
Murray will find out who he plays on Thursday when the Olympics draw is unveiled.
