Fans allowed at Houston Open for 2020

Well, it appears the PGA Tour will be allowing spectators for the 2020 Houston Open, which will take place from November 5-8, 2020. According to the Associated Press, 2000 spectators are expected to be in attendance, as that is the number of tickets which are being sold at this time.

The prices of the tickets are $79 for round one, and $109 for the second through fourth rounds. The majority of the spectator guidelines have not been finalized yet, but fans are expected to wear masks.

The mask rule is an interesting one. Fans in the state of Texas are required to wear masks when they attend National Football League games, and Major League Baseball postseason games. However, as we saw on Monday Night Football last night in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, very few spectators were wearing masks in the Cowboys’ 38-3 thumping at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. The fact that the majority of the 20,000 fans did not cover their face with masks could easily be seen when the crowd was panned by ESPN cameras, and was substantiated by Mickey Spagnola of dallascowboys.com, who reported “those Cowboys faithful here, instead of pulling their mandatory masks down, as most seemingly were…”

The Houston Open is significant because it is the last tournament that will take place before players compete at the final major of 2020, the Masters from Augusta, Georgia. However, one must realize coronavirus is still extremely serious, especially in the southern states. There have been 877,077 cases of coronavirus in the state of Texas and 17 599 deaths. In the Lone Star State there are also 113, 534 active cases.
