DAVID Eustace will have two strong chances to deliver a farewell winner for him in The Valley’s feature event, the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m, WFA) on Saturday.

Eustace will depart from his partnership with Maher on Saturday as he will move to Hong Kong to train in his own right.

Maher and Eustace will be represented by Recommendation and three-year-old colt Southport Tycoon in the Australia Stakes.

Recommendation is $3.30 favourite with PlayUp and Southport Tycoon is $9.

Eustace said on RSN that although Recommendation had drawn barrier nine he was in form and had been there and done that.

The stable elected to scratch their other three-year-olds Brave Mead and Scentify from the Australia Stakes and run them in the Manfred Stakes at Caulfield on Friday.

“It’s a big ask for three-year-olds to take on older horses and he needs to step up,” Eustace said.

“Southport Tycoon did an excellent job at his first campaign where he ran some really good races.

He’s come back a more mature horse and he’s trialled up nicely.”
