EPL Matchweek 2 Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan

Week one is in the books and we posted a small profit in what is usually one of the toughest weeks of the year. Our expert has taken a look at week two and here are his picks from the weekend’s games.

Everton v West Brom, Goodison Park

Everton kicked off the season with a very good win over Tottenham. But it will be a different kind of test as they host newly-promoted West Brom this weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti is facing a dilemma at the back with Jarrad Branthwaite set to miss out after picking up an injury in the Carabao Cup. Everton are not the strongest defensively and it could mean we see a more open game.

West Brom started last week’s loss to Leicester strongly but faded in the second half. They will take some encouragement from that performance though. It is going to be tough for the Baggies this season. They lack quality and it will be tough for them to stay up.

Everton should win this one fairly comfortably and while the price is a little short, there could be some value in it. They are a much better team than their opponents. I’d expect to see goals at both ends in this one so combine Everton with over 2.5 goals for a little more value.

Arsenal v West Ham, The Emirates Stadium

Arsenal started the season with an impressive 3-0 win last week and they should have more than enough to overcome West Ham.

Mikel Arteta’s side are a team on the up and the news of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new contract will only help improve their confidence. You can see that the team is getting more and more comfortable in Arteta’s system and it should show in their results.

West Ham were very disappointing against Newcastle and there is little to suggest they will go to the Emirates and come away with anything. They have won just once in their past 11 visits to Arsenal.

Like with Everton, combine Arsenal and over 2.5 goals for a little more value.

Manchester United v Crystal Palace, Old Trafford

Man Utd have had to wait an extra week to get their campaign underway but they will be raring to go. Donny van de Beek could make his debut but it is likely to be all about Bruno Fernandes as it was almost every time he was on the field following his January signing.

Palace had a surprising win over Southampton, but that perhaps said more about their opponent’s form than their own. Many expect Roy Hodgson’s side to be battling relegation and they don’t have the team to compete with Saturday’s opponents.

Outside of Zaha, Palace will not offer much of a threat – the top 10 names in the goalscorer markets are all United players. Backing the home side to win to nil looks to be the bet on this one.

Southampton vs Tottenham, St Marys

Two of the big disappointments from the opening weekend of games, both Southampton and Spurs will be looking to improve this week.

Gareth Bale could be in the squad for Tottenham but it would be surprising if he plays more than half an hour or so to get back into form. Jose Mourinho’s side have had a real issue in creating chances of late, but they should find some form here.

Southampton were very poor against Palace, and like Spurs, failed to create much. There is a little more spice added to this one with the news that Tottenham have approached the Saints over Danny Ings, but that isn’t likely to translate to a great display on the field.

This one looks set to be a tight affair, but Spurs should be too strong. Harry Kane got on the scoresheet in midweek against Lokomitv Plovdiv and he can do so again here.

Chelsea v Liverpool, Stamford Bridge

Liverpool were given a bit of a scare on the opening day when Leeds came from behind three times before the champions edged them 4-3 in the end.

Chelsea had things a lot easier with a 3-1 victory over Brighton, but there were signs that all of their new signings such as Kai Havertz and Timo Werner may take a little time to bed in completely. They could be a force this season but this clash may come a little soon.

Jurgen Klopp will be frustrated at the defensive display last week. The usually strong defensive unit was all over the place at times, but they will have worked on that since and should correct things here. It will be a good test for both teams to find out where they really are. But Liverpool’s familiarity with each other should give them the edge here.
