Alastair Cook looked great early before being bowled for 71 in his final match for England.

India’s bowlers then took control on day one of the fifth Test at The Oval.

Cook, who will retire after his 161st Test, was given a guard of honour by the India team on his way to the crease.

He was dropped on 37 by Ajinkya Rahane but, as most champion cricketers do, he looked to make India pay until he was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

Joe Root and Johnny Bairstow were both sent back to the change rooms for 0 which had India’s bowlers full of confidence and looking to turn the screws on England.

Ishant Sharma took the bowling honours with 3-28 as England collapsed to finish day one at 7/198.
