Alastair Cook is just 30 runs from becoming the fifth highest test run-scorer in history after leading Englad to a 154 run lead on Day 3

Cook was still unbeaten on 46, and England 2-114, as the hosts extended their overall lead to 154 after bowling India out for 292 on Sunday night.

England walked back out to bat with a 40 run lead on day 3 and Cook was determined to make sure his side didn’t collapse as they did in the first innings. The 125 ball stand ensured the tourists wouldn’t be able to continue their revival from the first innings.

He was joined by his successor as captain, Joe Root, who moved fluently to 29 not out by the close.
