Elina Svitolina ends her 2024 tennis season because of foot surgery

Elina Svitolina of Odesa, Ukraine is out for the remainder of the 2024 tennis season because of foot surgery according to her Instagram account. Svitolina reportedly had been dealing with a foot ailment over the last two seasons, and decided it was time to get it repaired rather than try to deal with anymore pain.
Svitiolina stated that her foot was giving her trouble not just in regards to tennis and training, but in everyday life. Svitolina is a mother as daughter Skai is two years old. Svitolina is also married to men’s tennis star Gael Monfils of France.
In 2024, Svitolina reached one WTA Final. Back in January, she faced 2023 United States Open champion Coco Gauff of the United States in the final of the Auckland Open in New Zealand, but lost 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Svitlolina is a three-time grand slam semifinalist. In 2019, she reached the final four of Wimbledon and the United States Open. Then in 2023, Svitolina reached the final four of Wimbledon for the second time.
It should be noted that Svitolina is the second high profile women’s tennis player to withdraw from the rest of the 2024 season because of injury this week. Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, the three-time grand slam finalist (2022 Wimbledon, 2022 United States Open, and 2023 Wimbledon) is out because of a shoulder injury. Jabeur is currently 22nd in the world, and Svitolina is 28th.
There are two more months left in the women’s tennis season. Some of the more notable events are the Korea Open, China Open, Wuhan Open, Ningbo Open, Pan Pacific Open in Japan, the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the Billie Jean King Cup in Malaga, Spain.
