Eels move to clear Moses clauses to keep him until end of career

Parramatta is urgently pushing for Mitchell Moses to clear his player-sided 2027 and 2028 options from his signed deal in a bid to keep the 30-year-old superstar through to the end of his playing career.

The biggest issue the Eels fear is Moses will be a free agent next November.

To combat that, the club is offering their halfback a pay hike for the final two years of his contract – the tradeoff would, of course, be that he waives the clauses and fully commits to the blue and gold. That has been tabled to Moses’ agent this week, with The Sporting Base understanding that’s as far as things have gone right now.

If things are green lit by Moses’ camp, the star’s contract will have to be re-registered with the NRL. There shouldn’t be any problems there though, as long as the club is paying the Carlingford junior what he’s worth.

There’s been no indication either way regarding whether Moses does want to stay that long.

One carrot new coach Jason Ryles is going to use to convince him is the captaincy.

There’s also the long relationship the 30-year-old has had with the club. He famously declared he’d “been an Eels supporter since I was a kid” some years ago and played for the club’s Harold Matthews Cup team before joining the Wests Tigers. He would only leave, The Sporting Base imagines, if he could join a true premiership powerhouse next.

Should the Eels score a victory on the negotiating table with Moses, expect them to turn the same attention to Dylan Brown; he has a number of similar clauses in his deal through to 2031.
