Eagles sign offensive tackle Mekhi Becton

According to Spotrac on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed offensive tackle Mekhi Becton of Highland Springs, Virginia to a one-year-deal worth $5.5 million. Becton is joining his second National Football League franchise after playing three seasons with the New York Jets. Becton was in the Big Apple during the 2020, 2021, and 2023 NFL seasons.

In 31 NFL career regular season games, Becton has one fumble recovery. It came in a 16-12 Jets loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on November 12, 2023.

Injuries have been a major part of Becton’s career to date. In the first game of the 2021 NFL regular season, Becton had cartilage damage to his knee and only played one game the entire season. That was in a 19-14 Jets loss to the Carolina Panthers on September 12, 2021. Then on August 8, 2022, Becton broke his kneecap during training camp and was out for a full season without playing a single game.

The 2023 NFL season was different for Becton. First and foremost, he was able to stay healthy. As a result, Becton became significantly richer this week.

Becton attended the University of Louisville from 2017 to 2019. He attended a university in a city, which is best known for horse racing. Louisville’s Churchill Downs hosts the Kentucky Derby on an annual basis.

Becton was the first round pick, 11th overall, in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the third offensive lineman taken in the 2020 NFL Draft. The New York Giants drafted offensive tackle Andrew Thomas of Lithonia, Georgia fourth overall out of the University of Georgia, and the Cleveland Browns drafted offensive tackle Jedrick Wills of Lexington, Kentucky out of the University of Alabama 10th overall.
