Eagles sign four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Ryan Kerrigan

The Philadelphia Eagles signed linebacker Ryan Kerrigan of Muncie, Indiana to a one-year contract on Monday where he could earn up to $3.5 million according to Glenn Erby of Yahoo! Finance. Kerrigan had spent the last decade with the Washington Football Team, where he led the franchise in most sacks all-time with 95.5.
It appeared Kerrigan’s time with Washington had run its course. That is because he only started one game with Washington in 2020, after starting 140 games with Washington from 2011 to 2019. While being used primarily in a reserve role this past season, Kerrigan had 17 combined tackles (nine solo tackles and eight assisted tackles), five tackles for a loss, six quarterback hits, 5.5 sacks, one fumble recovery for six yards, and one pass deflection. Now in Philadelphia, Kerrigan is seeking to regain a starting role.
The fumble recovery for Kerrigan in 2021 was the fourth of his career, but the first time he generated any positive yards from the opponent’s miscue. Interestingly, the four yards Kerrigan had from the fumble recovery came in a 27-17 Washington win over Philadelphia on September 13. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

For his career, Kerrigan has 454 combined tackles (330 solo tackles and 124 assisted tackles), 119 tackles for a loss, 147 quarterback hits, three interceptions for 61 yards, and three touchdowns, 25 pass deflections, and 26 forced fumbles. He led the NFL with five forced fumbles in 2014, and 18 tackles for a loss in 2016.
During his time with Washington, Kerrigan was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012, and again in three straight years from 2016 to 2018. Kerrigan is one of two notable linebackers Philadelphia has signed in free agency. Last month they came to terms with Eric Wilson on a one-year deal worth $3.25 million. Wilson played last season with the Minnesota Vikings.
