According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports on Monday, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Myles Jack of Scottsdale, Arizona has retired at the age of 27. He was not with the Eagles for long. In fact, only 15 days as he signed with Philadelphia on August 6. However, it appears Jack has a passion of being an electrician and plumber, and plans to pursue both of those trades.

Jack played seven seasons in the National Football League from 2016 to 2022 with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2016 to 2021) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2022). This past season in Pittsburgh he had 104 combined tackles (61 solo tackles and 43 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, and three pass deflections.

Jack played in 103 NFL games. He had 617 combined tackles (396 solo tackles and 221 assisted tackles), 22 tackles for a loss, 18 quarterback hits, three interceptions for 46 yards, one pick six, 18 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, 6.5 sacks, and four fumble recoveries for 97 yards and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Jack’s lone interception return for a touchdown came on September 9, 2018 in a 20-15 Jaguars win over the New York Giants. Jack’s pick six was for 32 yards. He also led the NFL in yards from fumble recoveries (81) during the 2017 NFL season.

Now with the retirement of Jack, it is expected that Zach Cunningham of Pinson, Alabama will be the starting linebacker for Philadelphia this season. Cunningham also signed with the Eagles on August 6. This past season with Tennessee, he had 24 combined tackles (15 solo tackles and nine assisted tackles), and one pass deflection. Prior to two seasons in Tennessee, Cunningham spent five seasons with the Houston Texans from 2017 to 2021. While with Houston, he led the NFL in solo tackles (106) and combined tackles (164) during the 2020 NFL season.

Jack is the second Eagles linebacker to make the news this week. Former Eagles linebacker Maxie Baughan of Forkland, Alabama passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday. However, it should be noted that Baughan was a five-time Pro Bowler with the Eagles, while Jack did not play a game.
